TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF HAMBURG

TUHH

The Hamburg University of Technology (in German: TUHH or TU Hamburg for short) is one of the youngest technical universities in Germany. The university did not start its research work until 1980, and teaching did not begin until the winter semester of 1982/1983.

At that time there were no university buildings and the first lectures took place in the surrounding pubs.

Nowadays, almost 100 professors teach more than 7,850 students in 15 bachelor and 28 master courses in the fields of Green Technologies, Aviation and Maritime Systems and Life Science Technologies and the resulting cross-sectional disciplines.

The TUHH has a good reputation and is internationally known. >The rate of international students is particularly high at 25%. Research benefits from a lively international exchange. The TU Hamburg welcomes Humboldt scholarship holders every year.

TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF HAMBURG

The campus

Since its beginnings, the TU Hamburg has developed into a campus university. The only exception is the Technology Center Hamburg-Finkenwerder (THF) near the Airbus site.

There is a great atmosphere on campus, characterized by young, creative and open people. The international and multicultural character is present everywhere. Overall, a great atmosphere for living, learning and generating new ideas. Between the lectures, the culinary offer must not be neglected.

The Studierendenwerk operates a canteen with 420 seats, the visual highlight of which is certainly the light-flooded winter garden. In addition, cozy cafés invite you to coffee and cake and occasionally food trucks expand the culinary offer.

The south of the campus is in a park. At the lake there is always a place for a relaxed chat with fellow students. The university campus also houses a large library, a campus shop and an ATM. In addition, the main building with its learning and communication center is open 24/7.

But leisure activities are not neglected either. In about 50 student working groups (AG’s), students can make music together, play drama, keep bees, drive racing cars, train, tinker and invent a robot football team, get involved socially, and, and, and. The fitness studio alone offers a wide range of possibilities on 220 square meters.

Cooperations & Partnerships

Technology for people is the core motto of the TUHH. As the saying goes, you don’t learn for university, but for life! Both aim to ensure that knowledge is not an end in itself, but is crucial for the transfer of teaching and research into concrete products and applications.

For this purpose, the Hamburg University of Technology maintains an impressive number of partnerships with globally successful companies from the Hamburg metropolitan region.

The technology center in Finkenwerder, which is operated jointly with Airbus Deutschland GmbH, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Lufthansa Technik AG, deserves special mention.

Medical technology is another important research field at the TUHH. Therefore, there are close connections to numerous Hamburg hospitals, such as the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE).

In the field of materials research, the Center for High-Performance Materials was founded in cooperation with the Helmholtz Center Geesthacht.

Further relationships with the Fraunhofer Society and the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) round off the diverse relationships with leading companies.
